In my state a first offense DUI is mandatory loss of license for one year after spending 2 or 3 days in jail. You will then get to spend 3 to 5 thousand dollars in fines, court costs, and attorney fees to possiblely be allowed to drive to work/school and back home. you will still be required to have installed and pay for a breathilizer ignition lock-out with a 0.0 threshold. It was not always like this. I emember in the 1960s thru 1970s a driver could be stopped for suspicion of DUI required to take the walk a line, touch your nose, and recite a tongue twister test. Upon failure the standard proceedure was the officer would lock your vehicle, confiscate your keys, then drive you home. The next day it was up to you to get to the police station, pick-up your keys, snd retrieve your vehicle.
