No doubt ignorance does cause many accidents, but the evidence seems to indicate the inattention is the major cause of accidents.

There was one study done in which about 100 cars were equipped with a video system that taped both the driver and the road ahead. The results were shocking. They indicated that the majority of drivers were often distracted and paid too little attention to driving. On the other hand, it could be that inattention is the result of ignorance.

Here in Albuquerque, there is a law against using a cell phone while driving unless one has a hands-free system. I am strongly opposed to that law because it may cause some people to think that using a cell phone while driving is safe if it is hands-free. However, there have been numerous studies which have shown that hands-free usage is just as dangerous. The risk comes not from holding the phone, but rather, from conversing with someone who is not in the car. That is much more dangerous than conversing with someone who is in the car.

Of course speed is a demon and kills . But it doesn't kill all who speeds, those lunatics who doesn't have the control over their wheel and lacks braking techniques loose their life.

yeah Always slow and steady wins the race.. No matter in how much hurry we are, we can drive in a relaxed manner to avoid accidents..

Sindhu your proverb is fine but still it depends on the situation whether one should go for a fast drive or a slow one..

You young whippersnappers won't always be so fast!

It's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden deceleration on impact with a wall, tree, telephone poll, car, etc. Twisted Evil

For those of you in the U.S., Montana experimented with no speed limit and the result was massive amounts of carnage. There are times to go fast, but I can't agree with the statement that speed doesn't kill.

Ah, don't let me bring ya down...it's just that I have seen some bad accidents in my time. Alcohol and very young/old drivers kill more than speed I'd guess.

Hey, cheer up, there's always the Autobahn over in Germany if you want to drive fast Very Happy

Haha, oh yeah that kind of driving amounts to a slow, tortureous death.

I don't know if I should admit this on a car forum Shocked but when I've lived in big cities I've stuck to public transportation and motorcycles. In San Francisco it took more time to find a parking spot than to get to whereever you wanted to go!

oh...I tell you, it IS torture....! (they ought to try that in the army or something to extort information - just put suspects in a car and make them drive in peak london traffic.... one can confess to anything by the end of the day.. i would! Rolling Eyes )

Hmm... I know what u mean about public transport... but don't even get me started on the underground here.... ! Confused

(btw. you can say anything you like here, well almost anything! Wink
