This is actually a let down of a story after the first two idiotic adventures. I was driving my pickup 75mph down the highway in the winter. The roads were salted and easy to drive. Then I went around a long gentle curve lined with trees and I must have passed over a county line, because all of a sudden I was driving on white ice way too fast, still in the curve. There were cars lining the outside of the curve in the ditch. This is another one of those slow motion panic instances where my clearest memory is the panicked look on the faces of the people staring at me. I was smart enough not to hit the brakes. My back end started sliding out, then I turned the front wheels to follow the road. Now I was drifting the curve at an angle. I remember gunning the gas as well, but that doesn't sound right, so maybe I'm just remembering the sound of the back tires spinning...

(its important to note that I learned my lesson before this incident. I did NOT have the cruise control on Very Happy )

Anyways, nothing happened, I made it around the corner and corrected the slide. Then I pulled off the road and shook for while before driving off.

~anyways, the reason this one hit me harder than the ones caused by my own stupidity is that it WASN"T caused by me, I was just plain unexpected. I could have killed any one of those people on the side of the road as well as myself, and my only wrong was not driving cautiously.

Stimpy,

I love your stories. I bet people on the shoulder just had their jaws hitting the ground. This one goes to the front page Smile

A couple of comments, if I may.
I think you might have stepped on the gas, too, because it helps in the correct amounts. And, I think I would get into the same trouble in such a situation. Most probably it would have been a bit lower speed, but those 5-10 mph would not make any difference. This is exactly why an average driver would benefit from drifting skills. Seriously, I think it is worthwhile to include opposite lock into driving exam.

Story well explained. Its glad that u made round the curve. The best thing you did is , pulling away from the road and taking time to calm down. If you continued driving there are chances that you erred again

Yes, those are the scariest ones, that you don't realize the conditions are perfect for, or those damn county lines stopping on your path! Razz Glad you came out okay.
