And scooters? oh yes, I forget what a hazard they can be.

Have I mentioned that in france they had a rule (apparently, an EU regulation) where on the motorways they have huge warning sign for an approaching speeding camera. Net result was that everyone waited for the warning board to come...slowed down till the camera came and then went rushing off at neck break speed again.

See, that below is just the warning for the camera itself:

How silly! Did the authorities really expect a different response. In my area the authorities are sillier. They post signs stating: "Traffic Laws Photo Enforced". They would have the temporary success you describe in France if they actually installed cameras or even fake cameras.

Of that ilk, the one I love the most is this:

Of course this is one of my favorites. After 30 years in US Army Aviation. In my area they had signs that stated "speed enforced by aircraft". Around the 1990's the state (due to budget cuts) eliminated the "eye in the sky". They still maintained the road signs and the timing stripes on the interstates. It reminds me of people installing fake (protected by a security company stickers on their homes).
I think we have drifted to a Galaxy far away off of this thread. Although I have had a great time. I think we should move to "drivers stories".

Yep, that's exactly why I love it. The state is playing a parent imposing speed limits, and every parenting book warns against empty threats. Yet another proof a government is a bad parent Smile

Though you are right, we should steer ourselves back to the topic, sorry Astraist Smile

lol traffic laws photo enforced? Do they mean that there are cameras operating in that area?

In london, at the start of most busy roads, they have a sign saying - cameras on this road - with lots of small cameras fitted (they maybe fake for all we know!) but it still serves to make people drive carefully down that entire road.

Unlike France, where one camera is to be found for miles and even that comes with a warning! So, all you need to do is to look out for that HUGE warning sign and no one ever gets caught on the camera ever!
