Hello, I'm new here & hope to find some advice. I am 24 years old, and still don't have a drivers license because whenever I think about the cop testing me, I feel anxiety begin to choke me. Confused

I know that it may be strange for someone my age to feel like this over the test, but I can't seem to change. I can drive really well, and my Mom has told me that I would more than likely get my license no problem, and I would love to drive wherever I want, but I still can't take that next step.

Has anyone else here felt like this? And if so, how did you get past it?

Thank you for any advice.

Welcome to Fasd AJ. Nice to meet you and thank you for sharing your little dilemma with us. I can perfectly relate to your problem (having gone through a similar situation) and believe me you're not the only one!

I know there may be people who think 24 is late not to have had your driving license, but I personally think you'll probably make a much more sensible and careful driver on the road now... so it might just be the ideal age to try for it.

Also, practice and more practice driving is the best way to deal with your anxiety about the test. Remember, it's a test of your nerves as much as anything else and though some anxiety is normal for everyone, excessive nervousness might go against you. Especially, if it prevents you from focusing on your driving.

It would be a good idea to try driving with a couple of new people for practice (other than the person you're usually used to driving with)... which might help you relax with different people watching you. You could always ask a relative or neighbor for this.

Lastly, once you've practiced enough, just sign up for the test and GO FOR IT! Honestly, to over think something like this might just unnecessarily build up too much anticipation around it. And worse comes to worse, even if you fail the test, you can always take another one and the second time, it might not be such a scary thing after all. So, just book in a date, practice and give it a first go! Smile

Best of luck with everything and do keep us posted.
