Crazy gas saving devices
Car Myths
I love reading about all the crazy devices we're sold to help our gas milage.

My absolute favorite is the Tornado. Its that little heavily advertised impeller that goes in your air intake and gives you "up to 24% better fuel economy and 15 horsepower"

when tested, it did nothing except reduce wallet thickness by 3 twenty dollar bills Very Happy

My second favorite is that expensive magnet that wraps around your fuel line, supposedly breaking up the heavier molecular clumps in your fuel. Its even been shown to decrease milage!

You should change your oil every 3000 miles - or should you?
Car Myths
Automotive dealers in this country are really smart. They managed to create public opinion that gives them return service customers three times more often than in any other part of the world. Huge money are made on this. It is probably the biggest source of dealership income.

I got tired explaining to people in this country that they don’t have to change the oil every 3000 miles. I got tired explaining that this does not do any good to their engines and hurts their wallets and our shared environment. I got tired explaining that manufacturers spend millions and millions on research and testing to make cars more reliable and to decrease cost of ownership, including increasing service intervals and decreasing service complexity.

And dealers did not spend a penny on the research. They a...

Protect your investment
Car Myths
This thing made me laugh the very first time I heard it. Those guys who try to sell you nose covers or Teflon paint just do not know what the term “investment” means, probably. Did they complete at least elementary school? If yes, then this is outright scam.

Investment is something, which is supposed to increase in value over time, right? In all my earnest I can hardly call an “investment” a thing that immediately looses at least 10 percent of its value the very moment you buy it, and then keeps loosing the value every single day you own it. Yes, sure, the things like nose cover might help you to decrease the pace of loosing the value, but they will not reverse the trend, unfortunately. And, if you factor in the price of those "protectors" and the outcome they provide, I woul...

If you change only two tires, new ones should go to the front axle
Car Myths
I did believe in this for years. My reasoning was really easy and seemed to be bulletproof – I want my front wheels to have a better grip, because I want to be able to steer in order to keep control over my car in any circumstances. And I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
Gpsman from automotiveforums.com provided the link that changed my opinion to the opposite. It is from Michelin site. I do not use their tires, I think they are overpriced, but this has nothing to do with this video. They do not have any selling interest here, and I do believe them. And I think they have some serious research under this video. Do yourself a favor, watch it: http://www.michelinman.com/care/tip6.html.
